Myth #1 My skin is too sensitive for peels
Firstly, most people who think they have sensitive skin are really dealing with sensitized or reactive skin meaning their skins natural barrier has been compromised. This can happen from using products that are not pH balanced, using the wrong products for your skin type, sunburns and other trauma to the skin. With sensitized skin, some products may make the skin sting, itch, redden or become irritated. We can prepare the skin prior to treatment by using home care products to help repair your skins’ barrier function allowing you to comfortably receive treatment. There are many different acids used in chemical peel solutions with different strengths ranging from gentle fruit enzymes to deeper penetrating solutions like TCA. The range of solutions allows anyone to benefit from a peel, even if you have truly sensitive skin and suffer from conditions such as rosacea, psoriasis or eczema. If you suffer with sensitive skin (click here) to schedule a complimentary consultation with us so we can get your skin conditioned and ready for corrective skin treatments.
Myth #2 I will have to take time off of work
This may have been the case in the 90s but with modern chemical peels, there is little to no downtime. Peels of the past left the skin red and irritated however the peels of today are the perfect lunchtime facial as they leave the skin glowing and bright. Immediately after the treatment, it is important to stay out of direct sun and activities that heat the skin such as aerobic exercise but besides that, you can pretty much go about your day as normal.
Myth #3 Peels are only for problem skin
While chemical peels are my go-to corrective treatment for clients with concerns such as acne and pigmentation you do not have to have these conditions to benefit from peels, the benefits are countless. Chemical peels help to tighten the skin, unclog pores, improve fine lines and wrinkles, improve dull and textured skin, improve hydration levels, reduce millia and ingrown hairs and help your products at homework better.
